The Swedish army

I have finally gotten time to take some pictures of the entire completed army, I find it very satisfying to have it all arranged up on my table, feels great to see them all assembled.

What I've done is 6 regiments of foot, they are based for DBx so that each base is 60x30mm, and each unit consists of 3 bases of pike and 4 of shotte. They are made up to fit with the Field of Glory rules as this was the rules of choice in my club when everyone started with this project (and I think I'm the last one to finish...)
With the infantry I have 3 regiments of horse, one cuirassier regiment and two normal horse, one of that could be used as a harquebusier regiment, it is in reality just the normal cavalry with a few of the guns that comes with the them.

To this I have 2 cannons and 4 commanders to round of the force.

This I hope will be enough for some fairly sizable battles with the Pike & Shotte rules.
Untill I get some battles going, here are some pictures of the whole lot, enjoy!

Swedish Army all done

I'm done!

Well, not quite really, I've now completed the last two regiments for my Swedish army, and what do you know, it's still the day of Salute =)

The thing thats not complete is the basing on my final regiment, when I based the second to last I used up most of my basing material that I have used for the whole army, and I'm not that keen on doing it totally different from all the other regiments. I do have a little bit left, and I'm thinking of two possibilities, one that I get myself some more and wait for it until I can place the army in the "completed" shelf (where it will be quite alone...) or I mix the stuff I have left with something else to make it just a little different, but still looking like all the others. I haven't decided what to do yet. But until I do, here you can see some images of the last two regiments.

Next my plan is to get an army shot with all regiments nicely arranged, and then get them out on the field of battle!

Swedish TYW Cuirassiers

After some drying time for the bases and varnish, it's time to show my latest addition to my growing Swedish army; the Cuirassiers.
I painted them up with the black armor that was the hot stuff back in the 17th century. They did paint up very quickly as I used the colored primers from Army Painter to get the horses almost done with just that, and with a black undercoat on the riders there wasn't much else on them to paint.

I did however go for and Infantry flag as the standards, I thought the small cavalry flags that apparently was frequently used was, well a bit small for something as grand as tanks of the day. So I went for something bigger.

Overall I'm pleased with how the unit turned out, the only thing I have to complain about is that there was a large amount of flash on most of the riders, large bits of metal was lodged between the legs in thin sheets and a fair few of the weapons had been bent and twisted to that a few broke as I tried to bend them back. It was fixable and I got a few extra arms so I did survive but it was a little annoying and fixing the miniatures took far more time than painting them in the end.

But enough whining from me, lets look at some pictures instead!

TYW Swedish Artillery

As a stage in my quest to be done with my TYW army before the Pike and Shotte rules hits my doorstep, I've now finished my two cannons that I've had sitting for far to long. After the commanders this was the one thing that I really was missing in the army. So with this my army is now playable, if perhaps a bit small.

As with the other parts of this army they got a treatment of base colors and then a little dip in Army painter dip, well not a dip as I brush it on, but you get the point.

The gun on the right is from Perry Miniatures and their ECW range, the other one is a Worlord Saker cannon. I think they match each other really well and will look good on the field of battle.

Swedish TYW commanders

I've finally got myself fired up about some historical miniatures, mostly because Warlord has it's game system for ECW and TYW on they way, apparently later this spring or early summer is the talk now.

So to get my army ready for this I painted up the commanders I have had laying around forever. So I got them going, got the commanders painted, added a few standard bearers and such to make it more interesting.

I also painted up my C-in-C, Gustavus Adolphus, the mini I have is the Warlord one, and as it depicts him in a rather flamboyant style, he did not get any standard. in my head he has left them far behind to get hold of the enemy himself. I rather like the pose they have for him, it's very much a pose I can see him in, leading his Finnish cavalry in a headlong charge.

I'm all in all quite satisfied with the miniatures this time around, I still have to get some matt varnish over them, as with most of my army. The only thing that got me a bit upset was when I edited the photos here, and saw that one of the banners for my commanders is up side down... Ah well, I'll have to live with it...

But, we need some pictures, and here they are;

More swedes

Finally I got the time to finish of the latest batch of my Warlord Swedish infantry, this time around I went for a green unit, but I "spiced" it up a bit and gave them white/beige pants to match the banner I put in the unit.
And not inly that, but the unit got reinforced with their own priest, so they have nothing to fear from the enemy (or own commanders...)

I'm now up to 4 units of infantry and 2 of cavalry, and soon I can really start using them for something
I have decided though to make a commander or 2 as the next batch, so that I don't go crazy over all the more or less, same infantry models, and that I can use the minis for a game or two in the not too distant future.
I also have plans for starting my very own gaming table, the board components for the first part has been acquired, and all I need now is a weekend or at least a evening to start planing and carving out the first little parts.
But more of that when the time comes.

All flaged up and ready to go

Finally I've gotten a few flags on my units, and the infantry is now completed.
The army is kind of taking form now with three units of foot and two of horse, I'm getting quite satisfied with the look they now when they are all lined up.Hopefully I can get a commander painted someday soon so that I have something to lead them with as well.

For now this is how they present themselves:

Warlord Pike and Shot Cavalry

So, finally my second unit of cavalry is done, well... at least so far that the minis are painted, still missing bases, but I'm in the process of finding out how many of each size I'm going to need so that I can get a order away to warbases

The minis then was painted a quickly as possible, I blocked the colors in and then slapped a good amount of dipp on them, I even just primed the horses with army painter brown primer and then just dipped them. It's almost cheating, but at least I got the unit done in just 3 nights of very limited painting time.

I also just got hold of some flags for my other units, so if I get the time then I'm going to get some flags going for all my units and get some nice little photo on all of them arranged for... well at least arranged =)

The unit then, well this time I was inspired of some flags I saw for the Västgöta cavalry that I found on Flags of War, the colors was in green and white, so thats what I went for in most of the clothing, I just had to get some yellow in, because... well I think swedes need that.
So here they are in all of their unbased glory!

That all for now folks.

Still more swedish infantry

I've gotten a bit of painting flow, and I've manage to finish another unit of infantry. This time they didn't turn out blue, but green instead. I found a flag in the swedish infantry box from Warlord of the "Swedish Västgöta Regement" and since thats where I am from I painted a unit to kind of match the flag. The flag is green with a red cross on it, so that translated unto a unit with green coats and red details.

This time I dipped the miniatures instead of of extensive use of dark brown wash, so the end result was a bit different from my previous units, but I works and it saved me quite a lot of wash.

And as usual I still need to get the actual flag done... I really should do those.. any day now, or should I say year? =)
