Black Powder: Austrian - Line Infantry IR 20 2nd Battalion

Here I have the 2nd battalion for the 20th infantry regiment Kaunitz, this will most likely be the 3rd battalion in the regiment as soon as the next large unit is done, as we here have a normal unit of three bases. This is also the last figures in the first Victrix box I got, not bad to get four units from a single box.

But back to IR 20, when we last saw them, they fought in Teugn-Hausen and got beaten by the french, next time they are to see battle is at Eggmühl, on the second day they are positioned on the left flank of the Austrian army under the command of Feldmarschalleutnant Rosenberg as Generalmajor Bieber had been detached from the III corps to support the IV corps.

On the left flank they are supposed to keep the french on the other side of the river Grosse Laaber, but they fail to protect a crossing, and soon they have to fall back as three regiments, eight battalions of french troops cross. Together with IR38 they fall back into some woods on the north-east side of Eggmühl and there holding the line, while the rest of the Austrian army begin falling back to avoid a fight they can't win. IR20 did a sterling job of holding of superior numbers and prevented the army from losing it's way of retreat, and only after a long days fighting did they fall back and leave the french in possession of the field.

It was a hard fight but it did hold the Austrian army together as a fighting force, and while beten, it was far from destroyed.

Here we have the regiment so far, only one unit away from totally complete.

Black Powder: British - Commanders

Next up in the commander line up is the British ones. These are also from the Perry brothers, the Colonels pack. I also got these a long time ago, and they have been standing around for ever with only primer and some red on them. And when I finally got going on them they took no time at all to complete...

It's not much to say about them, they are non-descript colonels, perhaps modeled after someone, but who that would be I have no idea. But they look nice once completed, but I remember it being A LOT of flash on them and I had to clip and file quite a bit to get them decent. And I still can see some places that I missed. Anyhow, here they are!

Black Powder: French - Commanders

So, some time ago I posted the battle of Vimeiro and well, I had some new commanders painted up for just that occasion, and now it's more than time to show them off a bit.

First up I painted some mounted officers, I think these are from Victrix old metal line of miniatures that they discontinued quite some time ago. I know that they have been laying around in a box for at least 4 years, perhaps as much as 5. But anyways they got some paint on them now.

Next I have some officers on foot from the Perry twins, it's their dismounted generals and staff blister, and as always they deliver some very nice models.

They all turned out great I think, and they did the job on the table as well.

Black Powder: Austrian - Line Infantry IR 23

I have yet another Austrian regiment to show off. Then one we are looking at this time is Infantry Regiment 23 Würzburg. The regiment suffered greatly during the Teugn-Hausen battle as they came up against 3 battalions of French light infantry and in a forest no less, not the ideal ground for a formed regiment. During the fighting the regiment was faltering under some intense fire and started to retreat, their brigade commander, Generalmajor Alois Liechtenstein took their standard and personally led the regiment once more into the forest to deal with the French skirmishers.

The regiment broke into the woods but was soon repulsed again, Liechtenstein getting severely wounded for his effort.

The regiment was badly mauled later in the campaign as well, and after it it was disbanded for the next 5 years until they reformed again in 1814.

As I have looked into this regiment they seem like a hard fighting lot, as they had no less than 3 different commanders between the years 1802 and 1809, most had just a single one...

Anyways, to represent this I have modeled this battalion after the story, giving them a commander with a flag and some more action in the unit than I normally have, giving them firing and charging positions to represent their charge into the forest. As they had 2 battalions in the field here, I plan on doing the same to the next one. It's always fun to do some small things like this, and not have every battalion looking as they are on parade.

Bolt Action: Fallschirmjägers - Support I

So its high time to show off some more germans, this is the first batch of support troops. They are crews to some different weapons and special troops, I have not however their weapons as I was not commissioned to paint these.

But first are actually something that is included in the basic platoon for Chain of Command, a panzerschreck team

Then we have some crew for a MMG

And some nice little folk that I think is supposed to crew a PAK 40

Lastly I have an additional rifleman, as one of the original miniatures was armed with the wrong weapon, so I got hold of another one with a rifle from my own stash and got him painted up as a replacement.

This was actually one of several miniatures I painted before starting this commision to try out the painting scheme, it's not that easy to get the colours right and it took about 3-4 tries to get it right so that both I and my client was satisfied with the result.

And then we have a overview of them all

I also have here a little sneak peek on the basing as we decided on a basing type a while after these was completed. Missing here are the rifleman and panzerschreck team.

Black Powder: Austrian - Line Infantry IR 20

So after I failed miserably at taking pictures of some of the commanders used at the last game, I instead have to present a new Austrian infantry regiment.

I here present IR 20 Kaunitz, present at the Teugn-Hausen battle under the command of Generalmajor Bieber. In this battle the regiment was initially held in reserve, and sent forward after a battalion of Grenzers and Jägers was beaten back by the French 3 Ligne and 10 Légére on the Austrian left flank. Their intervention halted the French advance and let the remaining Grenzers and Jägers retreat and regroup in relative order. They held the line until the whole corps is sent packing by the French.

In this campaign IR 20 took the field with no less than 16 companies all told, giving the regiment 2 and 2/3 battalion in the field. Almost reaching the proscribed 18 companies, but not many regiment could show such force at the time. My plan with this is to make a total of 3 battalions, 2 large such as this, and one normal sized to represent the strength they had in the field

Since we "only" have such small battalions, I have here converted a normal line trooper to be a standard bearer, and instead of using walking commanders I took the mounted one that comes in the Victrix pack. It turned out rather well I think, and makes it possible to make 3-4 units from each Victrix box. not a bad turnout for a single box.

Bolt Action: Fallschirmjägers - Platoon overview

So with the command figures I showed last time the first platoon is complete.
This is the platoon as I had it a while back, right now I have them on the painting table again to base them, as soon as I have completed that I'll take some new photos of them.

A nice little bunch of minis, and looks really good when all together.
